Visibility into the Upstream and Smarter Decision making

Why do we exist?

When a pharmaceutical product goes into shortage the consequences for the patient not having the treatment can result in morbidity and mortality.

Knowledge of an upcoming shortage can start a plan to mitigate its impact before it affects the patient. Visibility into the upstream medicines supply chain can help identify upcoming shortages and thus allow for mitigation strategies to come into effect.

CheckMed’s aim is to provide this knowledge of the upcoming shortage to the institution (hospitals and retail pharmacies) and companies involved with solving the supply gaps.

What Problem is CheckMed Solving?

Sandip Manku the Founder and Director of CheckMed. Sandip received his Pharmacy degree from Monash University in 1995 and an MBA from Nottingham University, UK in 2002. He has worked as a hospital pharmacist in the UK, and he has also owned and operated a community pharmacy in rural Victoria. Sandip commenced his pharmaceutical industry work in 1998 and has had several industry roles focusing on hospital generic sales and business development. In 2015, he started his own speciality pharmaceutical company Pro Pharmaceuticals Group which focuses on the supply of Medicine Shortages to Australian Hospitals, which has led to the supply of multiple products over the period working through the TGA S19A and Special Access Scheme  Pathways and led to an expertise within the Shortages area including the early notification of the shortage, the shortage impact both on a clinical and commercial level and the potential solutions to the shortages.

Through the Covid-19 Pandemic shortages in Drugs, Devices such as Rapid Antigen Tests or Lateral Flow Kits, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Vaccines have been seen. Stakeholders include Governments, Hospitals, Pharmacies and patients and the consequence the the shortages can be severe and life threatening.

CheckMed was founded from the “real life” challenges faced in the processes used to try to identify the products in shortage and then working manually through spreadsheets!

CheckMed’s aim is to develop a real-time technology tool using A.I. to predict shortages and identify products.  We aim to be able to provide early warning to the Drug, Device or Vaccine shortages – allowing for proactive decision making. Our tools will be applicable to Governments, Institutions and Pharmaceutical Companies.

What is A.I.

AI refers to any computer programme or system that does something we would think of as intelligent in humans. AI technologies extract concepts and relationships from data and learn independently from data patterns, augmenting what humans can do. These technologies include computer vision, deep learning (DL), machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), speech, supervised learning and unsupervised learning.
